Why Schedule Your Exam & Cleaning Today?

Your bi-annual exam & cleaning is the most basic dental appointment, but it is also the most necessary. Routine dental cleanings and exams create a strong base for your oral health.

Maintaining these appointments is an important part in keeping exceptional oral health and preventing decay and disease.

What Should I Expect?

Dental exams that are routine are typically quick and easy. It normally takes about 45 minutes to an hour.
Comprehensive Exam
Depending on your case, the dentist may need to conduct a quick set of x-rays. Followed by the examination portion which typically consists of a few “open wides” and “bite downs.” Checking for dental issues is rather simple. During your exam, the doctor will be able to determine the type of cleaning necessary for you. This includes a regular prophylaxis cleaning, periodontal maintenance, a full mouth debridement, or periodontal scaling and root planning.
Thorough Cleaning
The cleaning portion of your appointment is more effective than your toothbrush. The dental hygienist will remove the plaque and tartar first then use a high-powered electric brush to polish your teeth. Lastly, they will floss your teeth and finish with a fluoride treatment to protect your teeth against cavities. You will leave the dentist’s office feeling fresh and looking sharp!

Why Do I Need An Exam Before A Cleaning?

There are different types of cleaning depending on your current oral health. The doctor will be able to diagnose the type of cleaning during your examination and after your gums have been measured.

Gum measurements are a crucial part of determining the right cleaning for you. It helps create a record of health or disease over time that dental hygienists can reference to, evaluate healing, or determine the possible need to implement a more aggressive treatment plan.
